US HOUSING UNITS IN 2014

The home improvement industry is a multi-billion dollar per year economic powerhouse, with windows and doors making up about one-third of the projects.

Historically stable and consistent, it has unsurpassed potential, and is not subject to the rise and fall of economic trends. Spending by owners on improvements will rise 2 percentage points on average through 2025, keeping pace with expected economic growth.

In the past year alone, this industry has been projected to surpass prior consumer spending records.  Due to the home improvement industry’s success, home improvement franchises have been on the rise. Businesses in maintenance industries that service residences and commercial buildings saw a 13% increase in sales in 2016, according to Sageworks.

WHERE DO WE FIND BUSINESS?

HOMES

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans spent nearly $43 million on home maintenance and repairs in a single recent year. Homeowner spending on improvements is projected to increase 2.0 percent per year on average through 2025.

APARTMENTS

Tenant demand for more and better amenities has launched a race among property owners. The quality of a property’s amenities, especially access to the outdoors, plays a huge role in the clientele it attracts and the rents it can fetch.

OFFICES

As office amenities become recruiting tools, natural elements can enhance productivity. Allowing screened windows and doors to easily open brings that fresh air in as well, especially on a nice spring day.

SCHOOLS

Children today spend seven hours more on academics and two hours less on sports and outdoor activities per week than they did 20 years ago. Maintaining a connection with the outside is important to their health and wellbeing.

COLLEGES

Universities and colleges spent $11.5 billion last year on construction, an all-time high, according to Dodge Data & Analytics.

MILITARY HOUSING

There are 2.2 million military members in the United States, and the US government spends approximately $1.3 billion on housing annually, including on maintenance and repairs.

HOTELS

US hotels are on a renovation spree – so much so that they’ve spent a record $6 billion annually in improvements in recent years.
